Title: Photon management in luminescent composites: a love - hate story.
Abstract:
Luminescent polymer-based composites or nanocomposites are of technological importance in many fields including lighting, solar cells, optoelectronics, photonics, biomedicine, sensors, etc. In many of these applications, the long-term stability of the physico-chemical properties is crucial. In the course of our investigations dedicated to the ageing of such composites upon thermal and photonic stresses, we realized that the luminescent filler and the polymer counterpart interact with either synergistic (love story) or detrimental (hate story) consequences. A few examples (QDs/silicone, Y3Ga5O12-Tb3+/PVP, Y3BO6-Eu3+/EVA, SrAl2O4-Dy3+,Eu2+/EVA) are discussed in this concern, with specific focus on the influence of light scattering on the photo-oxidation kinetics.
